PAWS saved the lives of 184 dogs and 285 cats this past year, totaling 469 animals which have been re-homed. As of 12/31/09, we still had 9 dogs and 32 cats in foster and/or at our adoption center, which puts us at 510 animals saved in 2009!!!!!
Our public low-cost spay/neuter program, which we started in mid-August, allowed 92 dogs and 88 cats to get altered at a greatly reduced rate. We helped the public alter their pets which may have otherwise reproduced. This is in itself, the single most effective way to decrease overpopulation of pets and decrease the euthanasia rates at the shelters. We have applied for more grant monies to help us continue this most important program in 2010. We hope to be able to offer even better rates if the monies come through. — Carol Peckham, P.A.W.S.
